Books have always been more than words on a page to me. They are dreams, memories, legacies, lessons, and stories waiting to be shared with the world.
My name is Julie McGregor, and for years of my working life, I have been passionate about helping authors transform their manuscripts into published books. Through Love of Books, I had the privilege of supporting authors from across Australia and beyond, helping them navigate what can often feel like a daunting and confusing publishing journey.
After working in several publishing houses during my early years in the industry, I became aware that many authors were often unable to receive the level of care, guidance, and personal support they truly needed. This was not due to a lack of goodwill, but simply because many publishing businesses could not afford the time and staffing resources required to provide such individual attention.
When I established my own publishing business, I was fortunate to be in a position where I could do things differently. While authors paid for professional publishing services, they never paid for the countless hours I spent answering questions, offering encouragement, sharing knowledge, calming nerves, and helping them navigate the publishing process. I believed every author deserved to feel valued, respected, and supported as they worked towards achieving their dream of becoming a published author. For me, caring for authors was never simply part of the job. It was the very heart of what I loved to do.
Some authors arrive with a completed novel. Others bring family histories, memoirs, children's books, poetry collections, business books, or a lifetime of experiences they hope to share with future generations. What many have in common is uncertainty. They know they have a story to tell, but they are often unsure how to bring it to life.
That is where my passion began.
At Love of Books, I believed every author deserved honesty, encouragement, professional guidance, and genuine care. Helping authors succeed was never simply a business transaction. It was, and remains, a labour of love.
Over the years, I had the privilege of working with almost 2,000 authors. What mattered most to me was not the number of books published, but the people behind them. Every author had a unique story, a dream, and a desire to leave their mark upon the world.
Whether it was a memoir, family history, novel, children's book, poetry collection, or business publication, every manuscript deserved the same care, respect, and commitment.
Seeing an author hold their published book for the very first time was a moment that never lost its magic.
My heart often goes out to those beautiful authors who have since passed on. I feel incredibly privileged to have played a small part in helping them leave behind a lasting legacy for their families, friends, and future generations.
Whether it was a memoir, family history, novel, poetry collection, or life story, each book preserved a piece of who they were and ensured that their voice would continue to be heard long after they were gone.
There are few things more meaningful than knowing a person's experiences, wisdom, memories, and dreams have been captured forever within the pages of a book. To have helped make that possible has been one of the greatest honours of my life.
When I reflect upon my publishing journey, it is the people I remember most. Their trust, courage, friendship, and stories have enriched my life beyond measure.
My publishing journey began with Love of Books, where I spent many rewarding years helping authors bring their manuscripts to life.
Since then, my career has evolved through new publishing ventures and partnerships, but the values that guided me from the beginning have never changed: kindness, integrity, genuine support, and a deep commitment to helping authors share their stories with the world.
The business names may have changed over the years, but my love of books and dedication to authors have remained constant.
I have always believed that books change lives.
A book can preserve a family history, inspire a child, educate a reader, fulfil a lifelong dream, or leave a legacy that will be treasured for generations.
As Julie McGregor, my commitment has never been solely about publishing books. My commitment has always been to the authors behind those books.
Many of the writers I worked with had little or no publishing experience. They needed someone to answer questions, explain the process, provide encouragement, and genuinely believe in their work. It was my privilege to be part of that journey.
Today, the values that shaped Love of Books remain unchanged: compassion, integrity, service, encouragement, and a genuine love of literature and storytelling. Every author deserves the opportunity to share their voice, and every story deserves the chance to be heard.
Books are more than pages and words.
They are dreams, memories, legacies, and voices that deserve to live on.
That has always been the heart of Love of Books.
