Where to start?
Creating a school yearbook is a great project allowing students to express their creativity and memories of the past year. With the help of a teacher or school staff member, along with our support the following tips will help turn your yearbook ideas into a reality.
Like anything, the budget is the first item to consider.
To arrive at the cost of the yearbook printing and obtain a formal quote from our printer you will need to specify the following:
- The type of binding required. Softcover paperback, saddle stitch or case bound are the most common options.
- The size of the book. A4 is the most common size.
- Paper stock.
- Amount of printed pages.
Publishing for Beginners
We Love Books and we know about Books.
We can provide a yearbook with a reasonable amount of pages for a price that students and families are willing to pay. A printer that can provide quality printing and binding for an affordable price along with general advice and support is a good option.
Think of a theme for your yearbook. The theme can be used on the cover, the title page, and throughout the book.
Plan out the pages of the book. Here is an example:
Page 1: Title Page
Pages 2-3: School Staff
Pages 4-13: Class portrait pages (Teachers’ and students’ portraits, with their names)
Pages 14-19: Clubs and projects (one page for each club or project)
Pages 20-25: Assorted photos from around the school
Page 26: Autographs
You can have as many pages as you like using themes from all kinds of events. The common page count is from 26-60 pages.
Use computer programs such as Photoshop to crop photos and make layouts. Converting images to cmyk value will produce better quality images. Scrapbook software or print project software can be used to lay out the pages. Call us to obtain a yearbook kit to work from, and use software that will give you the right kind of output. Printing directly from a file usually gives better results than taking a printout to the printer.
Make sure there is adequate time to print the yearbook in time to distribute at the end of the year. Check with us in regards to the final delivery date.
